ABOUT Nalini Dusoruth

I’m a multidisciplinary visual artist working across photography, videography, movement, music, and experimental visual storytelling. I’ve been creating films from a young age, making small movies and exploring ideas intuitively before taking my work more seriously in 2023 during time spent in South Africa. Since then, I’ve developed a clearer creative direction and gained confidence in my visual eye through mentor feedback and my BTEC studies in Film.

My work is driven by instinct and experimentation. I enjoy taking unconventional or abstract concepts and transforming them into visually engaging pieces that are often strange, emotional, or open to interpretation. Film, particularly within darker or surreal genres such as horror, allows me to tell stories that don’t always need full explanation, guided more by feeling rather than logic.

Photography, for me, is more aesthetic-focused but still rooted in storytelling. I’m drawn to raw, imperfect beauty and unique faces, moving away from artificial or overly polished imagery. I’m particularly inspired by wildlife and conservation, using photography to highlight natural beauty and presence.

Throughout my BTEC course, I’ve developed technical skills in camera operation, composition, lighting, colour, and editing, working with software such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe applications. I’ve also learned the importance of reflection and concept development, allowing my ideas to evolve organically while maintaining a clear visual outcome.

Moving forward, I aim to continue developing my filmmaking practice while documenting life through photography, allowing my work to grow alongside my experiences.
My work is about finding beauty in the strange, the imperfect, and the unseen, and translating it into visual stories.
